Greeting someone requires a kiss on the cheek instead of a handshake, no matter what situation you are in. Men shake hands with other men , but otherwise it is always a kiss on the right cheek.
When people enter and leave a place, they greet every person there and say goodbye to every person there. Lots of besos.
Offices and businesses operate at a slower pace. For instance, to get a Chilean ID, we went to two different offices, and waited about two hours at the second one, which our mentors told us was completely normal. When we went back to get the ID cards today, which is the date they told us to return, they said that the cards might be ready tomorrow. Just a slower-paced operation than it would be in the U.S.
For the entire region of Los Ríos, of which Valdivia is the capital, there are only 4 ambulances!

Pancitos, rolls, are the food staple. There are no loaves of bread, just millions of rolls, and you eat them for almost every meal.
Even though the favorite sport is, of course, Fútbol, there is rugby field near my house so we went to watch a rugby game the other day. The U Austral team won, but it was hard to tell which side was which because both teams were wearing red.
