Since classes don't start for at least another week, we have a lot of free time. This morning we took a walk through the campus, which is very large, almost 10,000 students. It takes up most of the island that we live on.

Will, Maria, and I walked around looking at the buildings and looking for Clark, the fourth Valdivian Midd-in-Chile student. We got a little bit lost in the botanical garden, and then it started to pour.

As my host parents said, when it rains in Valdivia, it rains hard, but the beautiful days are very beautiful. We took refuge during the downpour, then kept exploring, and crossed the bridge into el centro, downtown Valdivia.

Un lobo marino is a sea lion! They hang out by the riverside market, the feria fluvial, to scrounge for extra fish. It looks like they are never hungry, because these animals are enourmous, almost as big as hippos or cows!
