Santiago: first day of orientation

We left the hostal in the moring and outside the door magically found the rest of the Middlebury in Chile students that were staying in the rooms across the street! Orientation is in the Hotel Bonaparte, a very nice place to stay.

We took a walk through the Providencia neighborhood in the middle of the day, and the views were amazing, we walked by palm trees and could see huge snow-capped mountains in the background.

Dinner was a treat - a fancy welcome dinner where we got to try the favorite drink here - Pisco!

Made with lemon, egg whites, sugar...kind of like a drinkable lemon pie.

There are 16 students in the program this semester, and we will all split up to go to different locations after orientation. Three others will go with me to Valdivia on Tuesday, and we are taking a plane, because the bus ride would last 12 hours. The others are studying in Santiago, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, and La Serena.
