Cows in the campo
Our class called "Silviculture of Native Forests" went on a field trip. What surprised me about this class is that it's not about the forests themselves as much as how to grow the trees in order to produce valuable wood and wood products. Monday we looked at some sections of forest that started growing about 80 years ago. It seems like whenever you leave the cities here to wander in the outdoors, there are usually cows hanging around.
Below is a berry called Murta which grows all over the place, in people's gardens and along the side of the road. It is like a blueberry but extremely sweet and with a very different flavor. Mostly it is really, really, sweet.
We got a little bit lost yesterday on the way to my friend Clark's birthday party. His host family said it was a costume party, so naturally we all were fully dressed when we got in a taxi and told the driver where to go. When a ninja, a crazy lady, a doctor, and a german girl (me) got out of the taxi at said address, an old Chilean man with a huaso hat and a very strong accent walked out to see why there could possibly be 4 crazy foreigners on his doorstep. We had the wrong address.
But we found it in the end. Also the cake decorator misunderstood the name Clark... the cake says "happy birthday Clerk!"
